How to Find Korean-Speaking Jobs Outside Korea

The demand is real

Korean companies operate in over 100 countries. Samsung, Hyundai, LG, SK, Lotte, POSCO, CJ - they all have overseas offices and factories that need local staff who speak Korean.

This is not limited to translation. Companies need Korean speakers in HR, purchasing, quality control, sales, admin, and management. If you speak Korean and live outside Korea, there are more opportunities than you might think.

Where are the jobs?

Southeast Asia
The highest concentration. Indonesia alone has about 2,000 Korean companies. Vietnam has over 9,000 Korean-invested businesses, many in manufacturing around Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia also have Korean factories.

East Asia
Japan has a large Korean business community, especially in Tokyo and Osaka. China still has thousands of Korean companies despite recent shifts, concentrated in Qingdao, Shanghai, and the northeast provinces.

Central Asia
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have growing Korean business presence, especially in construction and energy.

Types of jobs available

  1. Interpreter/Translator: The most obvious one. Accompanying meetings, translating documents. Needs TOPIK 4+, ideally 5-6.
  2. Secretary/PA for Korean expats: Scheduling, admin tasks, daily support. TOPIK 4+.
  3. HR/GA staff: Bridging local employees and Korean management. TOPIK 3-4.

What you need

  • TOPIK 4 is the most common minimum requirement. TOPIK 5-6 gives you a real edge.
  • A bachelor's degree in any field (Korean Studies, Business, and Engineering are most sought after)
  • English as a bonus. Many Korean companies use English as a secondary language.
  • Understanding of Korean work culture: hierarchy, meeting etiquette, how to address superiors

Tips for applying

  1. Write your CV in both Korean and your local language
  2. Attach your TOPIK certificate scan
  3. Prepare a 1-minute self-introduction in Korean
  4. Show long-term commitment. Korean companies value loyalty.
  5. Emphasize your bridge role: you can connect Korea with your local market

The combination of Korean language skills and local knowledge is hard to find. That makes you valuable. Start with TOPIK, build experience through internships, and check HangulJobs for the latest openings.
